While no new business was on the agenda for the Thorsby City Council on Dec. 5, the council did discuss future improvements on Helen Jenkins Chapel. Improvements such as replacing some of the windows, fixing the slight lean to the steeple and fixing the bell have been brought up at recent meetings. The council wants to keep everything original, but wants to make sure everything is safe for use as well.

The council has reached out to multiple historical preservationists and repair companies, and have some inspections scheduled for the chapel after the beginning of the year to address the improvements. The council announced at its Nov. 21 meeting that bookings for Helen Jenkins would be stopped until after the repairs were made and after all prior bookings were honored.

Fire Chief Josh Parker said a new Thorsby Fire Department Facebook page would be up and running within the next few weeks and for residents to start looking for the page to stay updated with local updates.

After the cancellation of Thorsby Christmas parade on Dec. 3, the parade is being rescheduled for Dec. 10 at 9 a.m. along the traditional parade route.
