Those wanting to develop a green thumb have an opportunity through the Chilton County Extension Office Master Gardener course.

Applications are being accepted through Nov. 30 for the Spring 2023 course. This class will meet starting Feb. 2. The spring course will meet on a weekly basis through May 11.

“Our class will be a hybrid that incorporates in-person with online training,” County Extension Coordinator Lucy Edwards said. “For those looking for a Christmas gift for their favorite gardener, this is it! They’ll love to learn and have hands on experience through volunteering.”

The course gives extensive information on a variety of topics, such as soils and plant nutrition, plant physiology, entomology, care of landscape plants, landscape design, plant selection, lawn care, weed identification, houseplants and vegetable gardening.

Applications are available through the Chilton County Extension Office, 504 First Avenue N in Clanton.

A background check is also required.

Cost for the course is $150.

Volunteerism is a major focus of the program with those in the program completing 50 hours of volunteer service to the community.
