Maplesville will be transformed into a Christmas fun land during Old Fashioned Christmas on Dec. 4 from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Local churches, businesses, organizations and individuals will be giving away free Christmas treats as attendees soak in the Christmas cheer of photo opportunities, walking the Christmas tree trail and the arrival of Santa.

Committee member Christine Epperson said participation in the Christmas tree trail increased this year with 40 trees being decorated by members of the community. Each will have a theme, whether it be in memory of a loved one or to promote an organization.

“It’s a lot of fun,” Epperson said.

Her favorite part is “seeing everyone enjoy it.”

“Seeing the smiles on those kids faces will make your day,” she said.

Classic horse and carriages rides will also be offered.

The inflatables area will be back this year with the addition of carnival rides and games.

Epperson said these were made possible through several donations and an Alabama Tourism grant. Donations were also used to update the Christmas decorations used for the event, and Valle Grande Mexican Grill will be donating food.

Santa Claus will arrive at 3:30 p.m., and a few surprises may be in store.

There is still time to be a part of spreading Christmas cheer. Community members can reserve a spot to set up and hand out something or have a Christmas activity by calling Epperson at 334259-4188 or committee member Karen Ford at 334-518-9319. (Sales vendors prohibited.)

The eight-member committee works on some aspect of the event all year long.
