Jimmie Hardee was re-elected as the Chairman of the Chilton County Commission at its meeting on Nov. 8. The commission voted unanimously to re-elect Hardee, and re-elected Commissioner Randell Kelley as the Co-Chairman.

The Nov. 8 meeting was the second meeting for nominations on the Industrial Development Authority board. The term will expire on Sept. 24, 2023, and Ricky Green and Justin Killingsworth have already been nominated. There were no new nominations, and the next commission meeting on Nov. 22 will be the last meeting for nominations. The commission will vote on the nominees at the same meeting.

At the IDA meeting on Nov. 8, the IDA said the money from timber removal on the 523-acre property the county jointly owns with the city of Clanton will be split between the two owners. The commission voted to have their portion be put into a fund to go to renovations of the law house such as a new roof and air conditioner.

The commission gave Commissioner Allen Williams permission to have surplus land the county owns surveyed and appraised in preparation to be sold. The land consists of small plats that are undeveloped or unneeded, and the commission will put the money from the surplus land into the courthouse fund.

Also, during the meeting, the commission:

• Opened nominations for the Chilton Medical Center Property Board, but had no nominations. Nominations will be open the next two meetings.
• Approved hiring Savannah Johnson at Higgins Ferry as a full-time assistant park ranger.
• Approved the Chilton County Sheriff’s Office to apply for a grant for a victim’s advocate position that will cover 75% of the funds needed. The county will match 25% of it, contingent upon the award of the grant.
• Approved the preliminary plat of Farms on Indiana Ave. developed by Mary Beatty located on County Road 627.
