The Clanton Police Department has released the names of the two bodies found in the 2015 Lay Dam Road structure fire on Sept. 20.

Results from the Department of Forensic Science analysis of DNA has identified the bodies as Tyran Lamont Spigner (49) and Tiffany Nicole Browning (33).

“The manner of the fire is now being investigated as arson, which was started to cover up the murder of the two individuals,” CPD stated in a release. “Due to the ongoing investigation, we will not be releasing more detailed information at this time. This investigation has been a joint effort involving multiple agencies, local, state and federal. We have made every effort to locate, preserve and process evidence in the case. The case is active at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.”

The Alabama State Fire Marshall and ATF investigators had responded to analyze the scene, and it took several weeks for the Department of Forensic Science analysis results to be available.

The initial house fire initially occurred on Sept. 20. Emergency personnel responded to the fire after a neighbor called 911.

“The fire was extinguished by CFD without further damage to nearby structures,” according to the Clanton Police Department.

During this ongoing investigation, CPD is asking anyone with information to contact CPD Detective Joseph Smitherman at 205-755-1194.
