Playoff positioning on the line in the last week of region football

The last week of region football action in Chilton County takes place on Oct. 21, and home-field advantage in the 2022 AHSSAA state playoffs is up for grabs. There are four teams locked into the state playoffs, and there are many scenarios that could play out and affect where some Chilton County area teams are playing, and if they will make the playoffs at all. The top four teams in each region advance to the state playoffs, and the top two get home-field advantage in the first round. All games start at 7 p.m. on Oct. 21.

AHSAA Class 1A Region 4

  • Maplesville High School (6-2, 6-0) hosts Verbena High School (7-1, 5-1)
  • Loachapoka High School (7-1, 5-1) hosts Billingsley High School (3-5, 3-3)
  • Autaugaville High School (4-4, 3-3) hosts Central High School, Hayneville (3-5, 2-4)

 

Scenarios for Maplesville and Verbena high schools:

(Both schools are locked into state playoffs)

Maplesville win: Maplesville wins region title outright, Verbena finishes second with Loachapoka loss OR finishes third with Loachapoka win.

Verbena win and Loachapoka loss: Verbena wins the region title holding the head-to-head tiebreaker over Maplesville (both teams 6-1 in region play), Loachapoka finishes third.

Verbena win and Loachapoka win: Three-way tie for first place, tiebreaker is wins against non-region opponents. Maplesville has zero non-region wins, and Loachapoka and Verbena have two each. Loachapoka wins region with head-to-head tiebreaker over Verbena, and Maplesville finishes in third place.

 

Scenarios for Billingsley High School:

 Billingsley win and Autaugaville win: Both teams finish with 4-3 region records, Autaugaville gets final playoff spot holding head-to-head tiebreaker over Billingsley.

Billingsley win and Autaugaville loss: Billingsley gets final playoff spot by one game over Autaugaville.

Billingsley loss and Autaugaville loss: Billingsley eliminated from state playoffs.

 

AHSAA Class 2A Region 4

  • Isabella High School (6-2, 4-2) hosts Woodland High School (1-7, 1-5)
  • Vincent High School (8-1, 5-1) hosts Thorsby High School (6-2, 4-2)

 

Scenarios for Thorsby and Isabella high schools:

(Both schools are locked into state playoffs)

 Thorsby win and Isabella win: Both teams finish with 5-2 region records, three-way tie for second place with Vincent. (Tiebreaker is most non-region wins)

Thorsby win and Isabella loss: Thorsby finishes in second place holding head-to-head tiebreaker with Vincent, Isabella finishes fourth.

Isabella win and Thorsby loss: Isabella finishes in third place, Thorsby finishes in fourth place.
