A costume contest for adults is being added to the fun this year at Maplesville’s Treats on Main.

The opportunity is open to any adult who is giving out treats to dress up in hopes of being awarded the prize.

Town Clerk Dawn Smitherman said the contest was the suggestion of a local business that had participated in the past.

“They thought that it would encourage more people to dress up and participate,” Smitherman said.

Each year, the street outside the town hall is closed and lined with community members and businesses handing out candy and other treats. Anyone can come and hand out candy without any registration required. Placement is not assigned, and community members set up where they want. The event is well attended by young people and families.

Treats on Main will be 5-6:30 p.m. on Oct. 31.
