Jemison High School picked up two AHSAA Class 5A Area 8 wins this week on the volleyball court, and celebrated their seniors in the process.

The Panthers earned the 3-1 win on Sept. 20 over Shelby County High School on senior night. Jemison celebrated its nine seniors —Kyndal Bolton, Crystal Estrada, Harley Genard, Alyssa Jeter, Makayla Lang, Jaclyn Lowery, Kinsley Martin, Emily Melchor and Vanesa Sanchez, in the win at home.

“Picking up that win, and senior night being an emotional and sentimental night … it meant more,” Jemison coach Melissa Baswell said. “All the fans, their families and friends there supporting them, was a huge difference.”

Jemison picked up right where they left off on senior night on Sept. 22 with a 3-0 win over Central of Clay County High School. The Panthers won the first set 25-9, and followed that up with 25-11 and 25-13 wins in sets two and three.

“They are a gifted group of girls, and the core of our group has been there with me since their sophomore years,” Baswell said. “They are a hard-working, goal-orientated group of girls that every year they have strived to improve our record.”

Jemison travels to Bibb County High School on Sept. 27 for the Panthers next matchup.
