The Chilton County 911 Board unanimously approved the 2022-2023 fiscal budget at its meeting on Sept. 22. The budget states that 911 has $1,231,130 in revenue for the year, including $356,130 from local municipalities and $875,000 from the emergency telephone surcharge. The department is projecting $1,225,910 in yearly expenses that will leave $5,220 left over. There is also $410,534 in the building/emergency fund balance.

911 director Terra Scott told the board at the meeting that there is $230,000 that will be carried over from the last fiscal year. Board Chairman Jimmie Hardee suggested that a portion of that money be moved to the building fund, while Chilton County Sheriff John Shearon recommended that a portion go to raises for employees.

The board voted unanimously to put $75,000 of the $230,000 into the building/emergency fund balance, but were adamant about looking into the pay scales and raises in the coming months.

The board approved the maintenance contract with Motorola on the existing communication towers unanimously. Motorola covered the first year of maintenance, but will not moving forward. The contract for the maintenance is just over $36,000 a year, and it will be split between the shareholders.

The board also approved the insurance contract on covering all of the components of Chilton County 911. The insurance is just over $21,000, and the cost will be split between the Chilton County 911 and the shareholders. The shareholders’ portion will pay for the tower insurance, while the 911 portion will cover the employees, vehicle and other things.

Both the maintenance and insurance contracts were included in the 2022-2023 budget. Each shareholder’s yearly expenses to the 911 should go up around $5,500 each year with the addition of the two contracts.
