The Thorsby City Council has opened a window for business proposals for lots on Montgomery Avenue that the city owns. Lots 7 and 8 on Montgomery Avenue have drawn interest from a few prospective buyers to fix the buildings up and use them both as businesses.

The council discussed at their meeting on Sept. 6 about hearing other proposals to make the decision on what business would be the best fit at the location. The council approved a motion unanimously that those interested in the property should submit a written proposal to the council, and there will be a 60-day period from the meeting to get those proposals in. Proposals can be mailed to the council to P.O. Box 608, Thorsby, Alabama or brought to city hall at 21060 U.S. Highway 31. Councilman Justin Killingsworth was absent from the meeting.

The council approved unanimously the 911 board fees rising from $9,100 per year to $9,754 per year for the infrastructure costs of the P25 radio system.

The council approved unanimously two part-time hires at the meeting, one for the police department and one for the fire department.

The council approved purchasing a new skid-steer loader with the one the city has now falling into disrepair. The city will save around $19,000 by purchasing the machine outright as opposed to leasing it. The council approved purchasing it outright unanimously. The purchase includes the machine and a trailer.

RedZone Sports Grill had their liquor license approved unanimously by the council, and the new garbage truck for the city should be in service by mid-October.
