The Clanton City Council will set its prioritized projects for Rebuild Alabama Act funding at its voting session on Aug. 22.

Software used to grade the quality of city roads is being used to determine which streets are in the most need of repaving.

During the Aug. 18 work session, Mayor Jeff Mims said city staff have also driven out to the roads to physically inspect them.

City Clerk Jonathan Seale explained that the resolution would be a list of roads that would be repaved, if there was enough funding.

“We will have a price here pretty quick on what that is going to cost, and we will put that in the budget for next year,” Mims said.

Seale anticipates the city receiving $60,000 from the Rebuild Alabama Act gas tax revenue this year.

Funding will continue to be a consideration as the council votes on applying for a Recreation Trails Program grant from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs for a bridge at Goose Pond Park.

Personnel changes will also be considered. Mims said the Parks and Recreation director position is being dissolved, and the employees will be under the supervision of the director of public works.

Mims said funding budgeted for the position will be used to create another engineer position.

Final approval of the SRO contact for one officer will also be voted on during the Aug. 22 meeting.

The council will also consider final approval of an increase in the business license issuance fee to bring it to $14.

The Aug. 22 meeting will be held at Clanton City Hall at 5 p.m.
