Chilton County Extension Office and Alabama 4-H are once again partnering to host the after-school club “Peach Pals” for ages 9-12. The club will meet on Tuesdays beginning Sept. 13. Space is limited and the extension office is encouraging the community to sign-up early.

“During COVID, we had so many participants that we had to break the club up into two different groups, so that we would have enough space,” said Lucy Edwards, Chilton Extension Coordinator. “We will continue to take registrants up until Sept. 12, but it is important to go ahead and sign up for spacing.”

Each Tuesday club members will learn and work on different projects. The first five weeks will host sewing classes. The weeks following will offer creative arts classes such as public speaking, photography, cooking/baking, painting and embroidery. Pam Ousley will lead the instruction on sewing. Joan McGriff will facilitate creative arts. The club is free, and all materials are provided.

“I am most excited about the embroidery class that the club is offering- it will be the Peach Pals service project,” Edwards said. “They will learn how to embroider Christmas cards. Afterwards, they will take them to the nursing home and share them with the elderly. It is a win-win for everyone!”

Due to the group being a club, Edwards said attendance is of the upmost importance.

“It is important that members attend meetings,” Edwards said. “Peach Pals will elect officers and those officers have duties. These meetings will also introduce different arts to club members which will hopefully help them when entering competitions in the spring.”
