The Jemison City Council approved a rezoning request for 16641 County Road 29 during its June 21 meeting.

The request to rezone the property from Single Family Residential to Light Industrial received three votes in favor with two abstentions. Council members Donnie Lane, Allen Wilson and Rex Bittle voted in favor. Donna Manasco and Sam Reed abstained. There are legal restrictions, such as conflict of interest, that sometimes require a council member to abstain. Mayor Eddie Reed was absent.

There was a question if this was enough votes to approve it, because it was the majority of those present in favor but not the majority of the entire voting body. However, after consulting with the city attorney, it was determined that it was enough to approve the rezoning.

Doug Bice has requested the rezoning from Single Family Residential to Light Industrial in order to lease the property to Ben E. Keith Trucking for tractor trailer parking.
