Distinguished Young Women of Chilton County is hosting Distinguished Diva Camp again this year for local female students in kindergarten through sixth grade.

“We just introduce the girls to what Distinguished Young Women is all about,” DYW of Chilton County co-chair Kay Clark said.

The camp focuses on DYW’s Be Your Best Self program, teaching campers about being “healthy, ambitious, involved, responsible and studious,” she said.

Attendees will also play games and learn a dance routine to perform at the Distinguished Young Women of Chilton County competition on July 9 at 6 p.m. in the Chilton County High School auditorium.

Clark said she enjoys “the excitement” the girls have at the camp.

“We have several that come every year,” Clark said.

The camp will be July 6-7 at Senior Connection 4-6 p.m. each day.

The deadline to register for the camp is June 27. Cost is $25. Registration can be completed by messaging the Distinguished Young Women of Chilton County Facebook page.

“The money we raise goes … straight into our scholarship fund,” Clark said.

Previous winners and participants serve as the leaders of the camp.

“I don’t have any problem getting any of them to come back,” Clark said.

The campers also make signs to cheer on DYW participants.

Attendees will also learn about the Distinguished Young Women scholarship program and how they can compete when they are rising seniors. Clark said some of the campers have gone on to participate in the scholarship contest.

The Diva Camp has been offered on and off since 2013.
