Skye Apothecary celebrated the beginning of summer and their one-year anniversary at their Summer Solstice Celebration on June 18.

The metaphysical shop had vendors, a food truck and live music to help with the celebration.

“It was awesome. We had a good turnout and there was a lot of people from the community there,” owner Rebekah Nevins said. “It was fantastic.”

Patrons filled the shop and parking lot exploring the local vendors and learning about what the shop has to offer. Guests arrived as early as 11 a.m., and the crowd remained steady throughout the event until 6 p.m., according to Nevins.

The band “Arriving” played throughout the event with special guest drummer Joshua Arnold. It’s Allgood by Double J had their grill on-site and were selling food.

All of the vendors were from in or around Chilton County and brought items they had personally made themselves to sell. Rebecca Ward, the wife of tarot reader Doug Ward, brought some of her photography to sell at the event.

“I have been doing this type of photography for a little over 10 years,” Rebecca Ward said. “I have traveled all over the United States, and my style is southern gothic. Where people don’t find beauty in stuff is usually what I find beauty in.”

She said Doug Ward has expressed his delight about how his time at the shop has been, and how the community seems to be responding to it as well. She said he mentioned the growth of the shop since it first opened on June 19 in 2021.

“With his meditation, it has been really good for the community. With the chaos, and the way the world is right now, people need it.” Rebecca Ward said. “A lot of these people have become like family. We have watched it grow over the year from a little portion of the shop, to now a whole community. I love it.”

Skye Apothecary had sales on items inside the shop as well as Doug Ward conducting tarot card readings. Reiki Master Sharon Russell was offering massages and Reiki sessions during the event. An exhibit of artwork from artists in Chilton County was on display upstairs.

The business had its first sound healing session with the new sound healer during the afternoon that was well attended by the guests.

“It is kind of surreal, the fact we have built this community of people that are so accepting of everything,” Nevins said. “They feel like the shop is more like a family space now, because they know everybody, met all of these friends and come and hangout there. It is just a surreal and exciting moment for us (to reach one year open).”

Skye Apothecary is looking to plan a fundraiser event with other local businesses in the community for a date late in the summer.
