From Blast from the Past Inc.

Blast from the Past, Inc. has provided four $500 scholarships to graduating seniors and donated $500 to the Clanton Middle School choir program.

Recipients were Chloe Haggard, Danielle Gilliland, Lalliah Benjamin and Logan Mitchell.

Blast from the Past, Inc. also refinished the stage floor and replaced the stage lighting in the CCHS McKee Auditorium. Due to the success of the first year, the group was also able to set aside funds to ensure future success of the Blast from the Past program.

In this first year as an independent civic organization, Blast from the Past Inc. had over 100 students from all of the six public high schools in Chilton County involved in the yearly performance. This organization, composed entirely of volunteers, is dedicated to promoting music education in Chilton County, and the first year was a big success. The cast and crew were exposed to a variety of musical genres from past decades, which improved their vocal and performance skills. Students also learned organizational skills and the ability to work with others, many of whom they did not know. These students were also held accountable for their attendance, promptness, and behavior.
With hard work and dedication, the students practiced singing and dancing for three evening performances and four daytime performances for the elementary students of Chilton County. The day shows give the performing students an opportunity to practice and perform for approximately 3,000 students. Most importantly, the younger students were exposed to a live musical performance, thus inspiring them to develop their own musical and artistic talents. It also helps that the younger students from the schools in the county are an enthusiastic audience, which is good for the performers.
Vocals and dance are a major part of the Blast program, but there are also students who use their artistic abilities. This year two students won critical acclaim for their patriotic artwork on the auditorium backdrop wall. This glorious painting of the Stars and Stripes surrounded by fireworks, along with the performances, provided outstanding entertainment for very receptive audiences.
One goal of the Blast from the Past organization is to replace the outdated sound system in the McKee Auditorium. This will require more funds and the continued support of the Chilton County community.
Blast from the Past gives students an opportunity to perform and the community the chance to be entertained by talented students enrolled in Chilton County schools.
