Peggie Dean Scott Harris, 86, of Clanton, Alabama passed away May 10, 2022 at St. Vincent’s East Hospital in Trussville, Alabama.

She was born Jan. 6, 1936 in Clanton, Alabama, daughter of the late Rheubin Esco Scott Sr. and the late Pearl Foshee Scott.

She was a third-grade teacher for over 30 years and touched the lives of hundreds of children. She loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ first and foremost, He was her rock and she was the rock of her family. The love of her life was her husband James, “The Bread Man” with whom she was blessed to celebrate 68 years of marriage. She helped to mold her three granddaughters into the successful young ladies they are today. She was their encourager and hero and stubbornly taught them to never say quit or give up when they were up against adversity and failure. She pushed them to succeed and was always there for them whenever they needed her. She loved her great-grandson, Paxton, whom she called “her baby,” and he called her “Mammaw”. He was her sunshine, her lap sitter and her walker most of the time and she wouldn’t have it any other way.

Peggie lived a life of service to her family and to others.  She was always asking “what do you need” or “can I help you do anything.”  She fulfilled the “Great Commission” on many mission trips during her life by telling and teaching others about Jesus around the world.  Other examples of her love and service to others include:  Providing a weekend home for a college student who was studying to be a pastor, quietly sewing clothes for a child in her classroom who had so many needs, Creating gift baskets for nursing home residents who had no family, Cooking food for others in the community, paying monthly utility bills for a neighbor in need, Sewing and making dresses for her granddaughters and the story goes on and on.  She loved fiercely without wavering and gave with all her heart.  All pain is gone and she has now been reunited with James and Benny.  We will miss her dearly until we meet again in Heaven!  “Well done good and faithful servant”, you now have your reward.

Surviving are her daughter, Ramona Charlene (Roger) Yeargan; granddaughters: Oakley Rexanna Yeargan, Keeley Raeanna Yeargan, Andrea Harris Brush (Adam); great-grandson, Paxton Harris Yeargan; Daughter-in-Law, Glenda Dorriety Harris; a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends and loved ones.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Lowell Harris; Father, Rheubin Esco Scott Sr.; mother, Pearl Foshee Scott; son, Riley Bernard “Benny” Harris; Brothers, Rheubin Esco Scott Jr., Thomas Franklin “Tom Frank” Scott and Bobby Ray Scott.
