The Wellness Group, a counseling center in Clanton, has received the necessary plan approval to move forward with its new location.

The Clanton Planning Commission gave unanimously approval to the final plat and engineering plans at a meeting on May 10.

Building Inspector Gene Martin explained that these documents gave more details about the façade and the interior infrastructure, such as electrical.

An announcement of plans for a new location was first made in August 2021.

Jared Hood of The Wellness Group said then that the current building was at capacity. The Wellness Group has 12 therapists providing counseling for children and adults.

The new location will be in front of Hatley Health Care with access off of Highway 145.

The Clanton City Council had previously approved renaming the street where the facility will be located Wellness Center Drive.

“That will sort of be harmonious with the other two streets that go into medical facilities,” Martin said. “We have Health Center Drive and Medical Center Drive, now we have Wellness Center Drive.”

The street to the site is yet to be completed.

“The Chilton County Hospital Board has got the money allocated for the street,” Martin said. “It is supposed to be a joint venture between them and the county to do the roadwork for the street.”

Surveying has been completed for water and sewer to the site.

The Wellness Group has stated it would like to begin construction as soon as possible. A contractor has been chosen, and preliminary site work has begun.

During the meeting, the Planning Commission also approved a $50 increase for the filing fee for rezoning to offset the cost of the required public notice publication.
