The Clanton City Council made quick work of its agenda on April 25, ending in less than 10 minutes.

Property-related times were the main votes as a rezoning request and an annexation request were approved.

A rezoning request by Allen and Melanie Payton for property on Lay Dam Road from R-2 Single- Two Family Residential District to B-1 Central Business District was approved unanimously. Council member Wade Watley was absent.

Richard and Amelia Roberson’s annexation request for 652 County Road 41 was also unanimously approved.

An alleyway off of Seventh Street will be closed to through car traffic after a vote.

Mayor Jeff Mims said the alleyway would be blocked by a sign so cars could not get through but pedestrians could.

Council member Don Driver pointed out that there was a major gas pipe that needed to be accessible through the alleyway. Mims said it would be something that could be moved to allow work trucks through.

Also, during the meeting, the council approved:

  • A retail liquor license for a package store, retail beer (off premises only) and retail table wine (off premises only) for Westside Grocery and package, 106 Enterprise Road in Clanton.
  • Declaring some police department personal property and other governmental equipment as surplus.
  • Purchasing four police vehicles and related equipment.
