The Chilton County Commission added new funds to the Courthouse Capital Project on Feb. 22 when it added approximately $77,000 to a new account.

Motions to open the new account and to have proceeds from the Foshee property subdivision added to it, that will have signatories, were approved. Commissioner Darrell Bone made the motion, and it was seconded by Commissioner Allen Williams.

Williams asked to have the amount from Foshee written in the records. No one opposed this motion.

“Just to make sure the correct amount is included on record,” Williams said.

The only piece of the agenda that was not unanimously approved was Blue Waters Corporation advertising for a public hearing to obtain an alcohol license with the company doing business as Lake Mitchell Marina. Commissioner Jimmie Hardee opposed the motion.

The Community Development Block Grant project for paving county roads 201, 127 and 128 was approved. The commission also approved to pay out three invoices; two to Grant Management LLC and the other to Wiregrass Construction Company. It was unanimously approved, however, Commissioner Joseph Parnell asked “the proper advertising be done after the project it is completed.”

The commission also approved a motion for no new nominations for the Chilton County Healthcare Authority.

“This being our second meeting, we will carry this over to our next meeting where we will close nominations and vote,” Hardee said.

The motion to receive a standard allowance up to $10 million related to COVID-19 revenue loss from the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 was approved.

A resolution to dedicate County Road 24, from Interstate 65 to Alabama Highway 31, in memory of Wendell Kelley was approved. Commissioner Randell Kelley abstained from voting.

To wrap up, Commissioner Joe Headley brought attention to a new bathroom being installed at the Chilton County Tag Department in Clanton. Williams said he would request a new quote of how much it would cost and the value of the building after installation. Voting on the installation will be done at the next meeting on March 8.

Also during the meeting, the Commission:

  • Reclassify Stephen Brock as a part time employee and hire Ahnna Grace Mayfield, Tyler Ryan Couch and Kenneth Ray Thompson as full-time corrections officers at the Chilton County Sheriff’s Office.
  • Accept the resignation of truck driver Danny Rye and laborer Jared Hicks from the Chilton County Road Department and granted permission for the department to advertise and hire replacements.
  • Approved the replacement of network fiber that feeds the tag office and jail from the courthouse.
  • Approved phase two of the preliminary plat of the Country Meadows Subdivision, led by developer Allen Payton.
