And then there was one.

Tuesday night proved to be a costly one for Chilton County’s aspirations for one of its high schools to bring home a basketball state championship.

Two schools faced off the Class 1A southwest sub-regionals with the Maplesville boys falling 71-36 to Keith and the Billingsley girls lost 59-25 to Linden.

Chilton County High School lost a nail bitter to Benjamin Russell 88-82 in the Class 6A southwest sub-regional.

“[Benjamin Russell] had some guards that could really play, they went on a run and we couldn’t get back to being comfortable on offense,” Chliton County head coach Austin Moncus said. “I think this will leave a bad taste in their mouth and they will be eager to get started for next year.”

The Tigers won five-of-six games heading into the area final but dropped back-to-back games to finish the season with a solid 21-9 record. Both Jakeveon Bolding and Jakobe Worthy had 24 points to led the Tigers in scoring.

That leaves the Isabella girls’ squad as the lone Chilton County school left in the state playoffs. The Mustangs face Washington County in Montgomery on Friday at noon at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl in the Class 2A southwest regional semifinal.
