Personnel was a major topic for the Chilton County Board of Education on Feb. 15.

Votes on personnel issues were made after an executive session to discuss why the personnel director had not received information on the personnel items on the agenda.

Superintendent Jason Griffin said he had gone through the needed process to make the recommendations that were being considered.

After the board came back into session, resignations or retirements of five employees were accepted. This included nurse Miranda Brabham at Clanton Intermediate School, teachers Brianna Smitherman at Jemison Elementary, Jennifer Supri at Chilton County High School and Kaitlyn Seaton at Clanton Elementary and child nutrition personnel Amy Lucas.

A teacher was hired for Verbena High School and Laura Baker, who had been the principal at PASS Academy, was approved as secondary coordinator for the Department of Teaching and Learning.

One of the certified hires to be considered was removed and another did not pass.

Board member Brad Carter had asked that the first certified hire to be considered be tabled until a later meeting, so more information could be provided to the board.

There were also 18 substitutes and additional after-school employees for Jemison Elementary School approved.

A vote for volunteers for Maplesville High School failed and a supplement for a CCHS coach was removed from the agenda.

The board approved hiring a food service assistant for Isabella High School, a special education assistant for Clanton Middle School and a food service assistant for Clanton Elementary.

Blast From the Past day shows will be performed for students Feb. 23-24 following approval by the board.

Griffin said he had received several requests for the day shows to be available again this year.

Also during the meeting:

  • Robert Binion addressed the board stating more black employees needed to be hired, in order to have fair practices in hiring.
  • The board approved LeCroy Career Technical Center’s HOSA club to travel for an event.
  • Volunteer coaches for CCHS and IHS, a volunteer at VHS, field trip travel for Maplesville High School and VHS were all approved.
  • The board also approved facility rental for the Strawberry Pageant to use Thorsby High School.
  • A vote to dispose of old technology was delayed. Board President Pam Price asked that selling the technology be researched before paying for someone to haul it off as garbage.
