The Clanton City Council unanimously approved establishing truck routes during its Feb. 14 meeting.

Designated truck routes include: Seventh Street/ U.S. Highway 31, Fourth Avenue North/ State Highway 22, Lay Dam Road/ State Highway 145, Friendship Road, Fourth Street North (from Third Avenue North to Fourth Avenue North), Third Avenue North (From First Street to Fourth Street North) and First Street (from Second Avenue to Third Avenue North).

Vehicles over two axles/ weighing more than 10,000 pounds are prohibited on residential municipal streets. However, these vehicles would be permitted on these streets to make local deliveries, according to the ordinance.

Changes to the mobile food unit ordinance were read and a vote is expected at a future reading. The ordinance requires that mobile food units can only operate in the same location for three days. They must have a business license and a three-day permit to operate. Health department and fire marshal inspections are required.  Exceptions from Mayor Jeff Mims for a permit to operate in the same location for more than three days can be applied for. If the request is denied, an appeal can be made to the Clanton City Council. The ordinance also requires that these food units have written permission from business owners to operate on their property.  Blocking the entrances to brick-and-mortar restaurants during their business hours is prohibited.

There was also a first reading of updates to the pre-trial diversion program to increase the fee. A vote is expected at a later date.

During the Feb. 14 meeting, Clanton Fire Chief David Driver presented an update on the city’s ambulance response.

In January, the ambulance service provided by city employee paramedics through a partnership with Regional Paramedical Services transported 52 patients. Of these, 45 were transported to Ascension St. Vincent’s Chilton. RPS made 21 other transports responding independently to patients. In January, there had been 119 emergency medical incidents that had the potential for needing an ambulance.

An update on the city’s efforts to make payments available online was given. Clanton utility bills can now be paid on the city’s website at clantonal.gov by clicking “pay online.” The next step is to make paying business licenses available on the website.

Other action taken by the council included:

• Approving Lisa Taylor’s request for 614 and 655 County Road 42 to be annexed into the city.
• Denying a request to rezone 198 Kemp Place from R-1 (Single Family Residential) to AG (Agricultural District)
• Approving updates to the metal building ordinance to require a facade if the building is repaired.
• Declaring surplus property.
• An appointment to the Clanton Housing Authority.
