Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Fun Day is returning to Clanton on Jan. 17.

The family fun will begin at 9 a.m. with adults versus children basketball games at the YMCA. Games will end around 11:30 a.m.

Organizer Margaret Hawkins of Kids 1st Bridge of Hope said a prayer walk is being added to the festivities this year.

Tyler Eiland of the Chilton Baptist Association will be leading this with Pastor James Watkins West End Baptist Church.

Hawkins said it was important to add a prayer walk this year “because of all of the things that are going on in the world.”

“We want people to say that we are united, and when we are together, we can do anything,” Hawkins said. “The main focus of the prayer walk is giving … praise to God and thanking him and asking for his continued blessing.”

The procession will start at First United Methodist Church at 11:30 a.m. and end at 115 Martin Luther King St. where there will be a time of free food, live music and games.

The Blues Jazz Kids, other singers and praise dancers will perform.

Seeds of Kindness awards will be presented to individuals who have done things to help the community. Hawkins said one male adult, one female adult and one child will be recognized.

“It is just to encourage them for the good things that they have done to help people,” Hawkins said.

Ocie Williams will be the guest of honor. Jeh Jeh Pruitt will be the grand marshal.

This is the third year for the festivities.
