Care Net of Chilton County will offer free Rezilient Kidz parenting classes at multiple locations this year.

“It has always been laid on my heart that I wanted a parenting program within the schools, and that’s all of Chilton County, not just one school,” Ashley Liveoak, executive director for Care Net of Chilton County, said. “Our board and I started reaching out to schools … and they have been opening their doors to us.”

Liveoak said the curriculum “focuses on the 40 assets that it takes to raise highly capable children” developed by Search Institute.

“With those 40 assets, it will provide ways to raise our kids to where they will be confident adults and productive adults,” Liveoak said.

The 13-week course will be offered on a weekly basis. Classes will be offered at Jemison Elementary, Thorsby High and Isabella High starting Jan. 25. Classes at Maplesville will begin Feb. 1.

“Being a parent, none of us have it figured out,” Liveoak said. “If we can come together with other parents and just build a community raising our children, I think that is beneficial for everyone. Parenting classes are not just for people who are struggling raising their kids, meaning that they are having issues or behavior problems. It is for anyone all of us can use parenting classes.”

Liveoak said dinner and childcare will be provided.

Each class will begin at 6 p.m. and most likely last until 7:30 p.m.

Attendees will also be eligible for giveaways each week for gift cards to grocery stores, gas stations and restaurants.

Liveoak said local businesses have already been donating to the giveaways.

Parents can register for the program by calling 205-755-6767 to let Care Net know which location they are interested in attending.

Efforts are being made to find a partner school in Clanton and Verbena as well.

Care Net received a grant in October to cover the curriculum for 18 months.
