Thorsby First Baptist will hold its first multi-day student conference, Prodigal Come Home Weekend, Jan. 14-16.

“We are trying to create a fun, energetic, affordable conference that is right here locally,” Student Pastor Justin Caton said.

The event will feature live music by Jordan and Mary Michael Brenner of Atlanta, speakers, games, food and several giveaways for seventh to 12th grade students.

The Brenners are associated with Passion City Church. Caton said he connected with the group through a mutual friend. Mary Michael Brenner will be a part of the worship team at the Passion Conference this year, which is one of the largest conferences for college students.

Thorsby First also has several fun activities planned for the weekend.

“We are going to have a live DJ one night to do a lip-sync battle,” Caton said. “… Some of the giveaways are some air pod pros, Apple watch, a TV, … a custom pair of Nike shoes and things like that.”

Students must be present to win.

Cost for the event is $40.

Local pastors will also be a part by leading breakout sessions focused on answering life’s tough questions, “like why does God allow bad thing to happen to good people,” on the final day of the conference, Caton said.

Thorsby High School’s Christian student-led club, First Priority, is also assisting with the event.

The first night of the event will include a kickoff rally, dinner and a time of music and worship.

When students return on Jan. 15, they will enjoy arcade and other games in the youth room and outside before the service starts.
