Two separate vehicle crashes resulted in two deaths last week.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the incidents occurred on Dec. 23 and 24.

On Dec. 23 around 3:30 p.m., a 13-year-old from Clanton died when the ATV he was riding left the roadway of County Road 77 near Clanton. ALEA does not release the names of minors.

“The juvenile and his passenger were both ejected from the ATV,” ALEA said. “The juvenile was pronounced deceased at the scene. The passenger was injured and transported to an area hospital.”

ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division is still investigating the situation.

On Dec. 24 around 1:50 a.m., Lonnie Fowler, 28, of Crestview, Florida was working on his 2007 Dodge Nitro on the shoulder of Interstate 65 South at mile 222 (about three miles from Jemison) when he was hit by a tractor-trailer.

The tractor-trailer, driven by Charlie Edwin Rogers, 50, of Atlantic Beach, Florida, “veered off the roadway and struck the Dodge Nitro and Fowler,” according to ALEA.

Fowler was pronounced dead on the scene.

The incident continues to be under investigation.
