The Jemison Lions Club has donated $500 to the Jemison High School FFA.

JHS FFA Chapter Advisor Clay Mims said the funds will help with expenses related to district and state competitions.

The competition season is just starting. Mims said the students have only been to two so far this school year.

“We will be gearing up for district contests … this spring, then state contests will be held at Auburn in May,” Mims said.

The FFA students have recently had the opportunity to attend the Sunbelt Ag Expo, the Georgia National Fair and two Georgia high school agriculture programs.

The donation is just one way the Jemison Lions Club is looking to give back to the community.

Rex Bittle of the Jemison Lions Club said Mims has helped the club in the past with projects.

The Jemison Lions Club raises funds through the annual Miss Blackberry pageant. The money raised is then used to support organizations in the community.

The Jemison Lions Club also organizes the Jemison Christmas parade.
