The Clanton Industrial Development Board has received a $5,000 donation from Alabama Power.

“Alabama Power is proud to be able to support those organizations in our communities which are working to promote economic, community and workforce development,” Michael Jordan of Alabama Power said. “Economic and community development is at the very core of Alabama Power’s mission to serve customers and communities. Alabama Power does contribute funds to eligible organizations which have specific projects identified to support that economic or workforce development mission.”

Mayor Jeff Mims said the funding will help the board get established.

Board Chair Alan Childress said this would likely take the form of marketing, administrative costs and establishing an office at city hall.

All of the board members serve on a volunteer basis. The board is made up of voting members and non-voting, ex officio members.

Childress said these members act as consultants to the board in their field of expertise.

“They do this day in and day out,” Childress said.

In addition to Childress, Ann Eiland, Robert Threlkeld, Stanley Varner and Steve Mims are voting members on the board.

Kyle Mims, Allen Payton, Allen Williams, Lori Williams and Jordan serve as ex officio members.

One of the first projects for the board had been helping the city determining which of it properties would be good to keep and which would be better to declare surplus and sell.
