Clanton holds rezoning public hearings

There was no opposition during public hearings on two rezoning requests at the Clanton City Council on Nov. 22.

One request by Beau Glass and Morgan Taylor is to rezone 5126 County Road 754 from M-2 Heavy Industrial District to R-1 Single Family Residential District. There were no comments at all on this request during the public hearing.

The other request was from Byron Lewis and Barbara Nabors to rezone a piece of property near Center Avenue (Pin No. 10585) from R-2 Single/ Two Family Residential District to B-2 General Business District. Lewis explained during the hearing that they were wanting to sell the property to someone that wants to store show cars on the property.

The first reading of each of the requests was also completed. A vote on the requests is expected at a future meeting of the Clanton City Council.

The council approved moving forward with an Assistance to Firefighters grant application for the Clanton Fire Department.

The council also approved increasing the business privilege license fee based on Alabama Department of Revenue recommendations from 2018. The fee had been $10 and will $12 be starting in 2022. Changes to charges for various administrative fees dealing with records were also approved

Clanton City Hall will be closed Nov. 25-26 for Thanksgiving.

The second Clanton City Council meeting in December has been moved to Dec. 22 at 5 p.m.
