As football season wraps up, many fans have turned their sights to the winter sports at each high school in Chilton County.

The biggest of them is basketball, and I am personally very excited for this season.

Basketball is a game that I loved growing up. I played recreationally as a child, and was a big fan of the NBA’s Orlando Magic and, of course, the NCAA’s Florida Gators, which became my alma mater.

Now, I get the chance to watch all of Chilton County’s teams compete on the court for the first time.

Some schools have many players returning. Others are trying to bring up a new group of young, talented players to replace ones they lost.

It will be a thrill to see what each team is able to accomplish.

I am personally hoping for success for each and every school. It would be exciting to see deep playoff runs and star players emerge.

Who knows? Maybe this season will produce a state champion in Chilton County. The optimism of a new season is always exciting, and there is plenty of it as we enter the 2021-2022 basketball season.
