The Thorsby Town Council passed a resolution regarding its garbage pickup system during a meeting on Nov. 15.

The resolution will require residents to have a sufficient number of garbage cans for their residencies to avoid overflow of trash.

Residents will be required to keep garbage cans tightly shut at all times except for when garbage is being put in them or removed from them. Any resident that has an overflow of trash for three weeks straight will be given a second garbage can at the cost of $50, as well as an additional $12 fee each month for one year.

Along with this, no resident will be allowed to have any scattered trash, regardless of the cause. Any trash that is scattered will be the responsibility of the resident to pick up. Should scattered trash not be picked up, citations by the town and fines by the court will be issued.

“We won’t necessarily be out chasing people that don’t pull their garbage,” Council member Neil Benson said. “It’s to handle people that constantly do it.”

Also during the meeting, the council passed another resolution that will set new fees for warehousing and storage units.

A business licensing fee of $12 per door for indoor storage units will be charged, and a flat fee of $200 will be charged for outdoor storage lots.
