After a long regular season, four local teams continued their seasons in the first round of the playoffs on Nov. 5.

Two of those teams, Isabella and Maplesville, hosted and won their first-round matchups handily. The two teams that had to go on the road were not as fortunate.

Here is a look at how those games went down.

Clarke County 47

Thorsby 8

Thorsby High School saw its season end at the hands of Clarke County High School on Nov. 5.

Coming into the game, the Rebels knew that they had a tough task ahead of them. The Bulldogs are the number one ranked 2A team in the state, and they played like it in this matchup.

Clarke County was able to rack up 413 total yards on offense in the game, 317 of which came on the ground. Ron Johnson led the team with 144 yards on nine rushes, also scoring two touchdowns in the game.

Thorsby’s offense, meanwhile, struggled for much of the game. The Rebels managed just one score in the game, as the tough Clarke County defense did not budge for much of the night.

Sweet Water 49

Billingsley 0

Billingsley High School was the second local team that got knocked out in the first round of the playoffs. The Bears were overmatched by Sweet Water High School in this game, getting shut out by the undefeated Bulldogs.

Sweet Water came into the game as the number two ranked 1A team in the state. The Bulldogs showed why in this game, as they jumped out to a lead and never looked back.

The Bears offense reverted back to how it played in the early portion of the season. In its first six games, Billingsley’s offense scored a total of 47 points. Mistakes, and facing a tough Sweet Water defense, resulted in the Bears being shut out in the loss.

On defense, Billingsley was unable to do much against a very good Bulldogs offense. Sweet Water had scored 40 or more points in seven of its 10 regular season games. They were able to do it again in this game against the Bears.
