The members of the Chilton County Commission discussed ways to honor the life of Jeff Cobb during a meeting on Oct. 19.

The long-time investigator lost his battle with cancer on Oct. 14.

Commissioner Darrell Bone brought the idea of a memorial for Cobb to the rest of the commission, as he wanted to find a way to honor the man that served Chilton County for many years.

“I would like to have something in this courthouse as a memorial for him,” Bone said. “And if we ever decide to build a new courthouse, transfer it over to the new courthouse.”

The commission mentioned some ideas for what they could do as a memorial. They discussed the possibility of a plaque with Cobb’s picture on it being made and placed in the courthouse.

Commissioner Jimmie Hardee discussed the possibility of creating a wall of fame, not only for Cobb, but for others that passed away after several years of service to Chilton County.

“There’s other people that served this community for 20 to 25 to 30 years that our grandchildren, our children, need to know who they were,” Hardee said.

The county would not be able to provide the funds needed for a memorial, however, the members of the commission and the Sheriff’s Department said they would be willing to pay for it from their own pockets.

No plans for a memorial have been finalized yet.
