A handful of turnovers by the Thorsby defense gave the Rebels a pair of early scores on Oct. 1 as the home team knocked off the visiting Francis Marion Rams 46-12.

The Thorsby defense wasted little time picking up its first turnover of the night as a second and nine play from their own 39-yard line saw a Rams fumble get picked up by Thorsby’s AJ Smith. Four plays later, Smith punched the ball in on a two-yard touchdown carry to put Thorsby up 8-0.

Jamario Montgomery brought the Rams’ second possession of the evening to an end with another Francis Marion fumble. Two plays later Luke Davis connected with Grayson McManus for a 27-yard touchdown to make it 16-0 with the game still early in the first quarter.

The Thorsby defense soon after forced the Rams to punt, but the punt resulted in negative yards, setting the Rebels up at the Francis Marion 23-yard line. Two plays later, Davis increased Thorsby’s lead to 24-0.

A third Rams turnover came on an interception by Slate Phillips. However, this time the Rebels joined the turnover club as Francis Marion got the ball right back just two plays later.

With 1:02 remaining in the first half, an eight-yard touchdown pass from Jayden Tubbs to Devon Mayhand brought the score to 32-6 Thorsby at the half.

On the ensuing possession, another Francis Marion fumble set Thorsby up deep in Rams territory. Two plays later, Davis connected with Nathaniel Thomas for a six-yard touchdown to make it 46-6 late in the fourth quarter.
