Homecoming provided a little extra motivation for Selma High School this week.

Quarterback Tristan Walls scored two touchdowns as the Saints prevailed 32-7 on Oct. 1 at Memorial Stadium.

The Saints (3-4, 2-1) remained in the chase for the region title.

“We knew how important this game was for us because of homecoming and to stay in the region race,” Saints coach Willie Gandy said. “We ran the ball well tonight.”

Amari Thomas and Dylan Walker each scored touchdowns for the Saints.

“We had a good week of practice and the whole team played well,” Walker said.

Selma jumped out to a 8-0 lead early in the second quarter on Walker’s three-yard touchdown run and two-point conversion.

The Panthers (0-6, 0-3) cut the gap to 8-7 on Coden Cummings’ 80-yard TD reception from Hayden Robinson 45 seconds later.

Jemison had a chance to grab the lead late in the second quarter, reaching the Saints’ 25-yard line.

The Saints’ defense stopped Jemison.

Walls’ 1-yard TD run and Thomas’ two-point conversion on the final play of the second quarter gave the Saints a 16-7 halftime lead.

Walls and Thomas each scored touchdowns in the third quarter to close the scoring.

Freshman Jordan Lamar had an interception for the Saints.

“The defense has played well all year for us,” Gandy said.
