Week five of the 2021 football season is in the books, and there was a mixed bag of results among Chilton County teams.

Chilton County High School fell in its home opener to Stanhope Elmore High School. Despite coming out swinging in the first half, the Tigers could not hold on for the win.

They were one of three local teams to come short in week five. Three others won while Isabella got a week off to rest. Here are how those games went down.

 

Maplesville 49

Loachapoka 0

 

Maplesville High School kept its perfect season alive with a shutout win over Loachapoka. The Red Devils handed the Indians their first loss of the season.

Maplesville was an unstoppable force against Loachapoka. The offense was outstanding once again. The defense more than held its own, posting its third straight shutout.

Brady Harrison and Jakavion Jackson had fantastic performances for Maplesville. Harrison led the team in rushing yards with 148 off 21 rushes, also adding a score. Jackson, meanwhile, reached the end zone three times for the Red Devils while picking up 120 rushing yards off eight rushes.

 

Verbena 52

Barbour County 0

 

Verbena was another school in the county to post a shutout in week five. They bounced back in a big way after a tough loss at home to Autaugaville in week four.

The Red Devils came out swinging against Barbour County High School. They scored on both sides of the ball, helping them to the dominant victory.

This win was Verbena’s first regional win in quite some time. It was Allen Brothers’s first as head coach of the Red Devils.

Jacob Morris led the way on defense for Verbena. He had 10 tackles in the game, a fumble recovery and an interception that he returned 60 yards for a touchdown.

On offense, Lance Edwards stole the show. He had 74 yards rushing and added a score for the Red Devils.

 

Thorsby 1

Calhoun 0

 

Thorsby High School got a win and a week off in week five. The Rebels received a victory after Calhoun High School forfeited the game due to COVID-19 issues.

 

Sipsey Valley 40

Jemison 28

 

Jemison High School capped off its four-game home stand to start the season with a disappointing loss to Sipsey Valley High School.

Following a power outage at Jemison midway through the game, everyone moved over to Thorsby High School to finish the game out.

It was a back-and-forth affair, with both offenses flashing throughout the game.

Unfortunately for the Panthers, the defense was unable to come up with some key stops in the second half, allowing Sipsey Valley to hold on.

 

Notasulga 32

Billingsley 6

 

Billingsley High School’s losing streak increased to four games in week five as the Bears were unable to score a victory against Notasulga High School.

The Blue Devils proved to be too much for the Bears on both sides of the ball. Billingsley’s offense was unable to get much going, continuing a trend of struggles on that side of the ball. The Bears are averaging just under eight points per game.

Things on the defensive side were not much better. Billingsley came into the game giving up an average of over 28 points per game. That did not improve against the Blue Devils, as they gave up 32 points in the game.
