The Chilton County Fair will be held Sept. 21 -25 at 6 p.m. nightly at Clanton City Park.

The fair is the main fundraiser of the Clanton Kiwanis Club. Funds raised are then used to help children in the community through donations to local organizations that work with children.

This year, the club is looking forward to offering more rides and is hoping for a good turnout.

“I just enjoy the whole event and the atmosphere that it creates throughout the county,” long-time Clanton Kiwanis Club member Jason Calhoun said. “It is a great time to socialize with people that we don’t normally get to see but every so often … we are always excited about putting on the fair for the county because we do raise money to be able to give out to the various entities that we support.”

Parking for the event is free. Admission will be free this year. Unlimited ride tickets will be $18 each night.

The Kiwanis Club receives the admission fees and a portion of unlimited ride tickets.

Calhoun said the club is thankful to Clanton Mayor Jeff Mims and the Clanton City Council for allowing the club to use the park for the event.

“They have been very kind and very generous to the Kiwanis Club, and we are so thankful for that,” Calhoun said.

The fair has been the main fundraiser for the club for the past several years.

“The whole point is to raise money to give back to the community,” Calhoun said.

In the past, the club has donated to the YMCA of Chilton County, Butterfly Bridge Children’s Advocacy Center, The Wellness Group Foundation, local programs to help provide Christmas gifts to children, Raleigh’s Place, Care Net of Chilton County, the Chilton-Clanton Public Library, scholarship opportunities and other local child-centered groups.

Hopes for the future are to secure a larger location for the event and expend the activities offered, Calhoun said.

The Clanton Kiwanis Club meets each Thursday at noon in the First United Methodist Church Activity Center.
