The Clanton City Council discussed the agenda for the Aug. 9 meeting during a work session on Aug. 5.

Items to be considered will be the second reading of a rezoning request on Highway 145 and a lease agreement with Butterfly Bridge Children’s Advocacy Center to use a city owned house on Fifth Avenue.

Transferring the restaurant liquor license for Friend’s Steakhouse to the new owner will also be considered.

During the work session, fixing weather damage to a city-owned house was discussed. Mayor Jeff Mims said he would like the council to develop a plan where employees could use the house, which is by the lake and has a pier, when they have time off.

Council member Wade Watley said he was in favor of this plan, but asked if the property could be sold if this did not work out.

Mims said if the city wanted to sell it, there would have to be an easement established first for future city needs.

Approving the cost of repairs is expected to be considered on Aug. 9.

Bids for paving the central downtown streets and the parks will be received this month and are expected to come to the council sometime in September.

Also during the meeting, the council heard a presentation from an employee benefits broker that could help employees make informed decisions about their insurance as well as provide several human resources services and training when needed. These services would be offered within commissions the city is already paying for insurance.

A preliminary site drawing for a potential new city hall building to be located on a different downtown lot was also presented.
