For the third week in a row, a traffic accident in Chilton County has resulted in a fatality.

On July 5 around 10 a.m., a vehicle being driven by Talitha Smith, 36, of Montgomery on Interstate 65, near mile marker 216, “swerved off the roadway to the right, struck a sign, and overturned,” resulting in the death of a juvenile passenger, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency

“The juvenile passenger was not properly restrained and was ejected from the vehicle causing fatal injuries.”

Mile marker 216 is south of Jemison.

The names of children are not released in ALEA press releases. However, ALEA did state that the youth was pronounced dead after being transported to St. Vincent’s Chilton.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division is continuing to investigate.

Traffic accidents on June 24 (County Road 38) and June 29 (Alabama 22) also resulted in fatalities.
