Chilton County 4-H and Isabella FFA recently competed in several 4-H state competitions June 15-17.

The Chilton County 4-H had teams competing in the junior divisions of the 4-H State Livestock, Skill-a-Thon and Quiz Bowl Competitions and the Isabella FFA/4-H team competed in the senior livestock competition. The county 4-H teams placed first overall in the quiz bowl competition, second overall in the livestock competition, second overall in the Skill-a-Thon competition and Isabella FFA/4-H placed fifth overall in the senior livestock competition.

The Chilton County 4-H teams included Lilly Smith, Claire Smith, Joshua Barr and Hannah Barr. Mackenzie Smith, Mason Smith and Luke Meadows from Marshall County also competed with the Chilton County teams, because they did not have enough people to form a full team. The Isabella FFA/4-H team consisted of Zachary Chapman, Allie Wilkins, Harley Wilson and Lindsey Wilson.

Lilly and Claire Smith enjoyed competing in all three of the competitions.

“My favorite one was quiz bowl,” Claire Smith said. “I enjoyed hitting the buzzer and being able to study on my own.”

“My favorite was the livestock judging competition,” Lilly Smith said. “When I get older I want to go to Black Hawk, which is a junior college in Illinois, and compete on their livestock team. Then, I want to got to Oklahoma State University, and be on their livestock judging team to compete.”

Bridget Smith, a 4-H certified volunteer and Lilly and Claire Smith’s mother, said she hopes more people will get involved with the Chilton County 4-H following their recent success.
