The Thorsby Town Council voted to accept a bid and purchase a Kubota tractor during its meeting on June 7.

The vote was passed unanimously, however, Mayor Robert Hight and council member Chasity Chapman were absent from the meeting.

Bids on two different tractors were presented to the council. The first was for the Kubota tractor, prepared by Clanton Tractor and Equipment Inc. The price for the tractor was $48,779.09. The bid on the second tractor, a Massey Ferguson tractor, was prepared by Keith Wood of Long-Lewis Truck & Tractor. The price on that tractor was $52,658.

After seeing the bids, there was not much discussion among the council, they knew which one they wanted to buy.

“I’m good with the Kubota,” Mayor Pro Tem Neil Benson said.

Also discussed at the meeting was the possibility of bringing back movies in the park events in Thorsby in July. A motion was also passed to add two new volunteers to the fire department.
