Two Chilton County Schools principals have announced their intention to run for the position of superintendent.

Thorsby High School principal Corey Clements and Chilton County High School principal Ron Pinson announced on Facebook last week their intention to run.

May 24 was the first time that candidates could announce their intentions.

CCS Superintendent Jason Griffin has already announced he will not be seeking re-election.

Griffin made the announcement during a meeting when the Chilton County Board of Education discussed pursuing changing to a board-appointed superintendent.

The BOE approved taking a resolution to the Chilton County Commission to move to an appointed superintendent for the school system. However, a motion to take the recommended change to the state for approval failed.

Superintendents of education are elected to a six-year term.

Candidates for Chilton County Schools Superintendent have until Jan. 28, 2022 to file their declaration of candidacy with the county chairman for their political party, according to information from the Alabama Secretary of State website.

More information about becoming a political candidate in 2022 is available on the Alabama Secretary of State website.
