Chilton Christian Academy held their graduation ceremony for the class of 2021 on May 28.
The graduates entered Victory Baptist Church’s sanctuary with applause, and Dr. Rufus Webster gave an opening prayer for the class of 2021 and their families. Following the prayer, Principal Charles Gottshall introduced and gave a short story about each of the graduates. Then Webster came back up to the stage to read Psalms 19:7-11, and gave the graduates some advice.
“What I learned in the army was, rules make a difference,” Webster said. “When you obey the rules and when you obey the law, things go much better for you. … Listen to the perfect law of the Lord.”
Following Webster’s speech was a ceremony, thanking all the mothers of the graduating class with a rose.
After the rose ceremony, Hannah Littleton gave her salutatorian address. She thanked all the staff of the school and all of her classmates for the memories that they created. Following Littleton was Samantha Cost and her co-valedictorian address. During the speech, she told stories about each of her classmates and how they have all become part of her “family.”
Then, Zachary Lyon gave his co-valedictorian address to the class. In his address, he thanked his former teachers, and gave a special thank you to his family and peers. He left the class by reading from Psalms and a quote from Yoda, a popular character from the Star Wars franchise.
“God has a plan for each of you,” Lyon said. “Psalm 32:8 says, ‘I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with my eye.’ I challenge all of you to do your best and follow the plan God has for you. In the wise words of Yoda, ‘Do or do not, there is no try,’ Thank you.”
Following the Lyon was guest speaker Dr. C.O. Grinstead, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church. Grinstead gave praise to all the parents, grandparents and factuality that helped to raise the class. He also shared numerous stories; some being humorous while others gave advice to the graduates. He left the class with a reminder to flee from evil and to cling to righteousness.
Then the class received their diplomas, and Pastor Donald Jones gave them a prayer of dedication. Finally, the 15 graduates moved their tassels and walked to the gymnasium for a meet and greet, as well as to show off some of their many accolades.
