The YMCA of Chilton County is going to be hosting its summer camp from, June 7 to August 6.

Everyday the campers will start with breakfast followed by a devotional time lead by churches in the community, according to Assistant Director Lloyd Lykes and CEO Lori R. Patterson. Then the younger age groups will head to the pool until lunch, while the older groups will start their academic rotations. After lunch the younger groups will do their academic rotations and the older groups will swim.

“They’ll have physical education, reading, STEM, photography, cooking, art, music and a game time,” said Patterson. “Then on Fridays we try to do educational field trips. Some of the field trips will be going to the movies, bowling, the zoo and laser tag. We try to make it both educational and fun.”

The camp is available for children in kindergarten through sixth grade, and it costs $90 a week for YMCA members and $125 a week for non-members. They do have a program that families can apply for to help pay for the camp, according to Patterson.

“We have a scholarship program available where people can apply for scholarships based off of income and the number of people in the household,” Patterson said.

To kick off the summer camp, they will be having a Staff and Member Appreciation Cookout on June 4 from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. in the YMCA parking lot. The cookout will have food, corn hole and inflatables, according to Lykes.
