The Chilton County Arts Council has found a new home.

An open house is being held on June 11 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. celebrate the organization’s move.

Attendees will enjoy refreshments while having the opportunity to tour the new space and view work from local artists Scarlett Teel and Carolyn Cumbie.

Charlotte Rowland, president of the Arts Council, said she and the other board members are excited about the new space.

“It is very exciting because we really haven’t got to do anything for over a year because construction (renovations) started before COVID,” Rowland said.

Renovations at the Art Council’s previous location had revealed additional issues with the building making a new location a better option.

“The Chamber of Commerce got a new home and the mayor and city council graciously approved us to move in to the previous Chamber building,” Rowland said. “We have a lot of space, and we have been working on it inside and out.”

The address for the Arts Council’s new location is 500 Fifth Ave. N in Clanton.

Renovations have included updating the sign and replacing the ramp into the building.

Other benefits of the new location are having a parking lot, space for outdoor activities and additional space to display local artists’ work.

“Our goals are to be more visible in the community, to get more members and to have art events,” Rowland said.

With more space, the Arts council hopes to expand its class offerings. Guitar lessons are offered on a regular basis, but Rowland said the organization is open to hosting other art teachers. Anyone interested in hosting a class can contact the Arts Council at chiltoncountyartscouncil@aol.com or 205-245-9441.

The Art Council’s annual Arts Festival is returning this year in July and another event is in the works for November.
