The Chilton County Board of Education named Rosalyn Dixon and Dr. Meghan Owens to principal positions during the April 20 board meeting.

Dixon will be principal at Jemison Intermediate School as of July 1, following the retirement of JIS Principal D.J. Nix.

Owens will be the principal of Jemison Elementary School. The contract of JES Principal Scott Ingram will not be renewed for next school year.

Dixon has been the assistant principal for Chilton County High School for five years.

The JIS position appealed to her for the opportunity to be in an administrative position working with younger students.

“I taught elementary for 10 years, then I moved up to high school/ secondary just to expand,” Dixon said. “I have loved my time there, but my heart is with the smaller kids, and I am just elated to be able to go back.”

The focus on instruction at the elementary level is important to Dixon.

She said she was excited for the opportunity.

Professional development and “cross-curricular integration” are two things she hopes to focus on as well as continuing the good things that are happening at the school, such as the “wonderful STEM program.”

“I am just elated to be able to join the Jemison Intermediate family,” Dixon said. “I know we will do great things together.”

Owens has been the assistant principal for JES for nearly five years.

“JES has become my second family,” Owens said. “Everyone is team players, and we all have students in mind when it comes to all of our decisions. Being here for five years now, I felt incredibly honored and blessed to step into this role.”

She is excited to continue working with JES teachers and staff, which she said “are the best around.”

While student success and achievement will be a main focus, Owens said she also wants to continue supporting faculty and staff as well as relationships between the school and the community.

“We have recently partnered with some of the local churches and community members in order to help grow success at Jemison Elementary,” Owens said.

Prior to coming to JES as assistant principal, Owens has been a high school science teacher in Chilton County for one year. She had taught science at Pelham High School before that.
