The Jemison City Council approved limited alcohol sales on Sunday during its meeting on April 19.

The City Council suspended the rules to allow the first and second reading of the ordinance to be held during the same meeting.

Sales of alcohol will be permitted after 10 a.m. An alcohol license is required.

The annual audit for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2020 was also accepted by the council during the meeting. The audit was conducted by I.H, McNeil III P.C. and had been reviewed by the council during a work session.

The change in net position for the city, including the governmental fund and the water/sewer fund, was $184,170 with the ending net position being $203,865. City Clerk Vicki Potts explained that a negative ending net position for the governmental fund was because of a bond from the previous year. This was offset in the combined ending net position by a positive ending position of $2,069,818 for the water/sewer fund.

Potts said the city received a good audit without negative findings.

The city ended the fiscal year with a $565,137 fund balance.

Other items approved during the meeting included:

• A cooperative maintenance agreement for the state right of way within the city limits of U.S. Highway 31 and Alabama Highway 191 to continue cutting the grass and be paid by the state for the service.
• Updates to the policy department procedures allowing trimmed facial hair and adding a reserve officer policy.
• Allowing unused paid sick days to be used toward time served for retirement credit.
• Naming Councilmember Donna Manasco as the city’s official voting delegate at the May 14 meeting of the Alabama League of Municipalities.
