Chilton County High School’s baseball program has received a $1,500 Power to Play grant from the Alabama Power Foundation.

Head coach Ryan Ellison said Angela Tignor, a parent and fellow teacher at the school, applied to the grant program for facility upgrades for the baseball program.

This would include upkeep of the field and possibly upgrades to the covered batting cages and locker rooms.

“It is a huge deal to be chosen,” Ellison said. “It is always nice to receive funds, to have extra income to help fund your program.”

As far as he knows, this is the first time the baseball program has received a Power to Play grant.

Ellison has been the head baseball coach at CCHS for the past seven years.

Application to Power to Play grants is open to public schools where 50% or more of the students are on free or reduced lunch.

Smith, president of the Alabama Power Foundation, said. “This year’s grants will help fund a

broad range of school programs – from boys and girls team sports and physical

education, to music education, band and visual arts. We are excited to support these

programs and the opportunities they provide to our young people.”

Ellison said he was thankful to the foundation for selecting the baseball program this year.

“We are very appreciative of it, and it is going to go to good use,” Ellison said.
