The Chilton County 911 Board unanimously voted to approve allowing the Ambulance Oversight Committee to enter into negotiations with Regional Paramedical Services (RPS) to contract with them to provide ambulance service to Chilton County on March 18.

RPS was the only company to make a bid for an ambulance contract to the 911 Board. Two other companies, North Star and Life Guard turned down the bid, according to 911 Board Director Terra Scott.

Now the Ambulance Oversight Committee, made up of paramedics and fire members from the municipalities and the volunteer fire association, will try to find a fair contract that allows RPS to continue its services in the county.

Even if the committee does strike a deal with RPS, the deal would have to be brought back to the 911 Board for approval, according to Scott.

The negotiations will begin now, with the next 911 Board meeting to take place on April 22 at 4:30 p.m. At that time, there may be an agreement presented.
